On Friday (February 21), Lady Gaga announced on Instagram that she will be performing a free concert at Rio de Janeiro’s legendary Copacabana Beach on May 3. The concert will be open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis, and will be broadcast live on Multishow and TV Globo. Gaga returns to Rio following her 2017 show cancellation due to the singer suffering from fibromyalgia. “It’s a great honor to be asked to sing for Rio,” Gaga wrote. “I’ve been dying to come perform for you for years. I am now coming back and I feel better than ever and am working so hard to make sure this show is one you will never forget. Get ready for MAYHEM on the beach.” Gaga’s highly-anticipated new album, Mayhem, drops on March 7.
Copacabana Beach has hosted a series of massive concerts over the years, including Madonna’s 2024 Celebration Tour finale which drew 1.6 million fans, while the Rolling Stones drew a crowd of 1.5 million in 2006, and Rod Stewart’s 1994 New Year’s Eve show brought in a record audience of 4.2 million.
